I'm a freelance writer based in Seattle who covers a wide range of subjects including the environment, science, health and travel. I have written for Slate,, Sierra,, Sunset Magazine, The Seattle Times, Salon, Seattle Metropolitan, Seattle's 94.9 KUOW public radio, and elsewhere. I am a contributing writer for Seattle Magazine focused on environmental topics. I have written two books. One, with co-author Kathryn True, is the book Nature in the City: Seattle (Mountaineers Books, 2003), which was reviewed in The Seattle Times as "a first rate guidebook...a treasure map to the city's wild and not-so-wild places." My second book, Outside Magazine's Urban Adventure: Seattle (W.W. Norton & Co., 2004) profiles outdoor places, sports and people in the Seattle area. I'm a member of the Society of Environmental Journalists and the Northwest Science Writers Association.

I am also available to write for companies and individuals who need clear, lively copy. My clients have included the Breast Cancer and Chemicals Policy Project at the University of California, REI, Group Health and

When I'm not writing I like to be outside gardening or hiking, or inside dancing, catching up with Seattle's arts scene, or eating with family and friends.

Environment, urban nature, health, oceans, travel. I love dancing, reading, the outdoors and travel. The name of this blog, The Round, comes from a poem by that name by Stanley Kunitz.
